Nursing is learnt on the ward, not in the lecture hall.
The day
- Second-year students start their postings in the general wards.
- They take the morning handover with the staff.
- They work through the day under the ward sister, with a clinical instructor from the college on the floor.
The logbook
Students keep a logbook and have it signed at the end of each posting.
It is the record the university asks for, and it is also the thing to look back on in the final year, when the first week on a ward seems a long way away.
